MATERIA MADURA X TOSTADO
For Tostado’s Galería San Patricio restaurant, we developed a series of custom surfaces using waste-based materials, showcasing the transformative potential of circular design.
Circular Design in Action at Tostado
From their own coffee and bread waste, we produced durable and functional surfaces that now serve as tabletops and countertops in the space.
Circular Surfaces
The restaurant features distinct areas designed to accommodate different dining experiences. Circular tabletops developed from coffee and bread waste are found in the grab-and-go section.
Rectangular Surfaces
While rectangular tabletops, made from the same materials, anchor the sit-down dining area.
A 29-Foot Statement of Sustainability
The coffee bar’s 29-foot countertop, developed from wood waste including mahogany, oak, and pine fibers, highlights the beauty and functionality of reclaimed resources. Its pale red undertones and natural wood textures offer a striking focal point in the restaurant’s design.
Our manufacturing process stars by carefully pouring the material mixture into custom molds. After curing, each piece undergoes meticulous sanding and machining to reveal its vibrant, textured composition.
Finally, we apply finishing touches and commercial grade sealing to enhance the depth and luster, resulting in durable and distinctive surfaces that merge sustainability with innovative materials.
This project emphasizes our commitment to collaborating with local businesses, sourcing materials directly from Tostado’s operations, and repurposing their waste into design solutions. Our innovative methods transformed discarded coffee grounds, bread waste, and wood offcuts into long-lasting surfaces. These materials not only reduce landfill waste but also elevate public spaces with their unique aesthetic and durability.
